Charlotte Housing Authority:

The Charlotte Housing Authority’s (CHA) ultimate goal is to be a financially viable real estate company that occupies the lead position in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County with regard to addressing the broad continuum of housing needs for very low and low income families. The organization is best described as a developer partner, asset manager, contract negotiator, collaborator, and contract monitor with a social purpose.

As of May 2009, the CHA Section 8 Housing Program had 4,268 vouchers authorized and 445 portable vouchers.

Position/Requirements:

  • The Director will oversee the Section 8 Housing Program, and will be responsible for implementation of program policy and procedures, tracking and reporting program utilization, implementing systems to ensure adequate communications with customers, ensuring adherence of CHA personnel policies, establishing systems to record and report compliance enforcement and providing adequate administrative support to staff.
  • Qualifications/Requirements include:
    • Bachelor's degree in management, business administration, public administration, or related field; seven to nine years of progressively responsible experience in public housing or assisted housing management, including a minimum of five years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
    • problem solving ability and leadership with an emphasis on positive customer service results;
    • communications skills with an ability to effectively move policy makers and community leaders;
    • excellent skills in critical thinking, public presentation, team building and conflict resolution;
    • detailed working knowledge of Section 8 HUD regulations, program rules and regulations, and of local and state housing laws;
    • Nan McKay certification(s) required within first year of employment;
